The performance of controlled complex dynamic systems inevitably suffers from various disturbances and uncertainties. Moreover, different faults (sensor and actuator faults for example) can occur. Sliding mode based observers have shown high performance for states and parameter estimation robustness with regards to measurement noise even in the presence of unknown inputs. The aim of this Special Issue is to summarize and provide the recent advances in sliding mode based disturbance and parameter estimation, faults detection (DPEFD) and their attenuation. The proposed Special Issue will facilitate faster uptake of advanced sliding mode based DPEFD technologies, as well as address new challenges arising from upcoming complex control systems, and generate new theories and methodologies.

A cri terion is put forw ard that the edges w hich have the minimum distances around the laser point are regarded as the edges of the rec- tangular plane, and the interferent ial lines are eliminated according to the pedal between the laser point and the edge and two endpoints of the edge. The validity of the method is verified by experiments performed on a sem- i physical simulation system for visua- l serving cont rol of space robot s.)

The LED clock consists of 60 LEDs which are placed circular around a common analog clock. The LEDs are used to display the seconds. Essential part of this circuit is the LED driver MAX7219 from Maxim. A datasheet is available on Maxim s homepage. The clock is controlled by the microcontroller AT89C2051 from Atmel. This microcontroller is clocked at a frequency of 12 MHz from which results a time base of 1 microsecond. Via software dividers one clock impulse per second is generated which is used for updating the LED display.
