脉冲噪声又称为冲量噪声或者椒盐噪声。脉冲噪声会使得灰度图像上亮的区域出现纯黑像素点而暗区域上出现纯白像素点。这种噪声可能由数-模、模数转换过程中的比特错误产生。灰度图像上的一些点上将随机出现亮点和黑点。 脉冲噪声污染灰度图像会使得部分像素点的灰度值突然变得过大或过小，造成图片上出现离散的、随机分布的暗点或亮点。中值滤波法的优势在于：局部地区过大或过小的灰度值都不太可能成为窗口矩阵元素的中值，故用中值来更新窗口中心元素基本可以消除过暗或过亮的噪点。为了避免对图像信息产生太大的改动，这个窗口矩阵要选得足够小，使得被污染噪点邻近的像素点的灰度值被选中赋予给窗口矩阵中心元素。一般来说，窗口矩阵一般取3×3即可。
