The main idea behind this book, and the incentive for writing it, is that strong connections exist between adaptive filtering and signal analysis, to the extent that it is not realistic—at least from an engineering point of view—to separate them. A hardware-in-the-loop simulation of a wind energy conversion system is used to assess a MPPT strategy for different velocities. The actual system is composed of the blade, a mechanical power train, a squirrel cage induction generator and power electronics. The experimental set-up consists of a DC drive connected to the induction generator. The DC machine is controlled to impose the same behavior as the wind turbine to the induction generator. Fluctuations of wind velocity and non-linear characteristics of the turbine are taken into account. All numerous model and controls blocks are organized according to Energetic Macroscopic Representation for real-time implementation. A very simple MPPT strategy without wind velocity measurement is achieved using a look-up table. This strategy includes a rotation speed limitation. Experimental results are provided for weak and medium wind profiles.
