自适应滤波器的研究是现今自适应信号处理中较为活跃的课题之一。自适应滤波器与传统滤波器的最大区别是自适应滤波器能够自动地迭代调节自身的滤波器参数，以满足某种准则的要求，从而实现最优滤波。被广泛应用于航天航空、遥感、医疗等各科各领域，几乎涉及信号传输和接收过程的学科，都要应用到自适应滤波器。自适应滤波器包括两个组成部分：滤波器结构和自适应滤波算法，自适应算法为其核心部分，算法的优劣直接决定着自适应滤波器的优劣。因此，研究人员从收敛速度，稳态误差和计算复杂度方面不断改进算法。
