The digital wideband receiver is a critical component in modern digital receivers. The receiver has the capability to expose and distinguish adverse signals contained within a large bandwidth (on the order of 1 GHz or more) of the radio frequency (RF) spectrum. The spectral estimator is a highly important design element imperative to the detection of the hostile signals within the intended bandwidth in order to fulfill mission requirements. This crucial element of an FFT-based digital receiver presented several challenges in the development of this research. The task at hand was to minimize the total hardware consumption contributed to the complex arithmetic operations while maintaining a high single signal spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) and multi-tone instantaneous dynamic range (IDR).

wireless sensor networks are required to share one wireless channel among several sensor nodes. An efficient media access control (MAC) protocol must be developed and implemented on hardware. This MAC must be easily used by future users on the target hardware. The MAC should avoid data collision and posses strong speed of transmission.

We formulate a scheduling problem that takes into account different hardware delays experienced by the secondary users (SUs) in a centralized cognitive radio network (CRN) while switching to different frequency bands. We propose a polynomial-time suboptimal algorithm to address our formulated scheduling problem. We evaluate the impact of varying switching delay, number of frequencies, and number of SUs. Our simulation results indicate that our proposed algorithm is robust to changes in the hardware spectrum switching delay and its performance is very close to its upper bound. We also compare our proposed method with the corresponding constant switching delay-based algorithm and demonstrate that our suggestion of taking into account the different hardware delays while switching to different frequency bands is essential for scheduling in CRNs.
